Soccing it to them
Written on 11 June 2010

The stadiums are built, the host cities around the country have been spruced up and turned into vibrant centres of soccer fever, and everyone (even those that have never watched a soccer match in their life before) has gone soccer mad!

Having been to the first World Cup match played at the new Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, I can honestly say there is no greater antidote to pessimism and negativity than attending one of the games. One cannot help but feel proud - proud to be South African and proud that we as a country have what it takes to make a success of this tournament and silence the skeptics the world over. We'll send all them tourists home with a smile on their face - a bit deaf, but smiling.
